ZUBIRI - PUEBLO DEL PUENTE - BRIDGE TOWN

Reaching and seeing the bridge leading into Zubiri was a wonderful moment. We're here! We studied the board map near the bridge to get oriented because we did not have a modern active mapping tool. Fortunately the town was small. We made our way over and stayed at Hostería de Zubiri. The kind man checking us in informed us that the thunderstorms of the day had caused quite a commotion in town. He told us there was flooding here and in nearby villages and that they hadn't had that kind of deluge in over 40 years. Some of the arriving pilgrims reported being caught in hail. Apparently we had literally bore through and survived a violent and potentially catastrophic weather event. Danggg.

THE RIVER

The Río Arga had one or two accessible areas where the rough waters were just calm enough to use. As a favorite thing to do, I went over to put my feet in it. The coldness helped me recharge and to reduce their swollenness. Aaaahhhh. I then went to have something for dinner. There seemed to be only one place open. It was a busy eatery at the main intersection in town. Several people recognized me. It was embarrassing for me to shyly wave back and pretend that I too remembered them. In my defense, I stand out quite a bit because of my dark skin tone and long white hair. Correction: beautiful dark skin tone and fabulous long white hair - please forgive my modesty :) :) :). Thank you pilgrims for your friendliness.

DO WE STAY OR DO WE GO?

Our private room was on the second floor. Oh great (for those who enjoy more climbing). But it was everything we needed and more. The whole place was very cozy, American-country-style-like, with the feel of a modern wooden cabin, The room had all the amenities and accessories with an ample-size bathroom and shower for getting refreshed. We slept GOOD. The next morning was another beauty. For the third day in a row, it was amazing to feel rested and ready to resume another long day of walking. A kind lady at the Hostel prepared and served a wonderful homestyle breakfast - delicious. We gathered our gear and packed our bags to be transported. We were ready!

After passing the main square to leave and stopping on the bridge to take in the moment, we practice our Euskera on Puente de la Rabia (<<google for history):

*Hasta la vista baby!
